Inside Great American Media: Bill Abbott’s Great American Breakout

Inside Great American Media: Bill Abbott’s Great American Breakout

Great American Media posts one of the most impressive growth years in family and faith entertainment.

NEW YORK, Dec. 30, 2025 — Under Bill Abbott’s leadership, Great American Media closed 2025 not just with growth but with major strategic wins that reshaped its footprint in the entertainment industry. While the broader media landscape grappled with fragmentation and shifting consumption habits, Great American Media’s commitment to family-centered, values-driven content delivered breakthroughs in audience reach, distribution, and cultural relevance.

Abbott’s clear vision — rooted in trust, connection, and content that celebrates faith, family, and country — produced one of the most compelling success stories in entertainment this year.

Audience Growth and Distribution Expansion

Great American Family and its sister network Great American Faith & Living achieved significant distribution milestones. Both networks joined YouTube TV’s live channel lineup, expanding linear reach into millions more households nationwide and strengthening the company’s appeal to cord-cutting audiences who still value scheduled, appointment programming.

In streaming, Great American Media rolled out its direct-to-consumer GFam+ app across all major platforms, giving viewers seamless access to its growing library of original films and series anytime, anywhere. Availability on platforms like YouTube’s Primetime Channels further amplified this reach and supported cross-platform audience growth.

Original Content Fueled Growth

2025 marked a major shift into sustained original series production, setting the stage for a robust 2026. Hits like When Hope
Calls
and County Rescue wrapped production on their third seasons, building franchise continuity and deepening audience investment.

The breakout success of Crossroad Springs stands out as a true network milestone. After its first season became one of the most-watched original dramas in Great American Media history, the series was renewed for Season 2 with expanded distribution across Great American Pure Flix, Great American Family, and GFam+. The network also premiered a Crossroad Springs Christmas music special tied to its fifth annual Christmas season.

Abbott’s focus on compelling storytelling paid dividends. This year’s Christmas slate, highlighted by a lineup of more than a dozen original films starring major talents like Candace Cameron Bure and Mario Lopez reinforced Great American Family’s identity as a destination for heart-centered holiday content. Coverage in national press underscored the breadth of the 2025 holiday film slate and the network’s growing cultural relevance.

Cinematic and Cultural Milestones

Great American Media hit a significant milestone with Another Sweet Christmas, the first theatrical release of a Great American Christmas Original, presented in partnership with Fathom Entertainment. The three-night nationwide engagement in more than 700 theaters brought the brand’s storytelling to the big screen and created a rare event-style theatrical moment for a faith-and-family-oriented feature.

Building on that momentum, production began in 2025 on the follow-up film A Sweet Christmas Anniversary, with a planned world premiere in 2026, signaling GAM’s commitment to expanding its film slate beyond television and streaming.

Great American Media also served as the exclusive broadcast home for the 2025 National Christmas Tree Lighting, bringing a national tradition into homes with performances from artists rooted in the network’s community and values. The event’s reach underscored GAM’s role as a cultural convenor during the holiday season.

Strategic Innovation and Market Positioning

Beyond programming, Great American Media enhanced its industry profile with key commercial initiatives. The company integrated its GAM Connect linear advertising solution with Audyns, giving advertisers data- driven tools to plan and measure campaigns across its networks with greater precision. This move positioned GAM as both a creative and commercial partner in the evolving media ecosystem.

Looking Ahead: Growth and Major Partnerships

Abbott closed the year with forward-looking announcements that set the tone for 2026. Great American Media became a media partner with America Reads the Bible, supporting a historic nationwide reading event scheduled for April 18–25, 2026. The collaboration aligns with the company’s mission and extends its influence into community-focused cultural programming.

On the streaming front, Great American Media revealed plans to launch Pure Flix Familia, a dedicated Spanish- language platform designed to serve one of the fastest-growing audience segments in faith-based entertainment. This expansion reflects a broader strategy to welcome diverse communities with meaningful, values-aligned content.

A Year of Momentum

Across platforms, content, and culture, 2025 was a defining year for Great American Media. Abbott’s leadership translated into measurable audience growth, expanded distribution, enhanced advertiser relationships, and cultural relevance that extended beyond screens into national conversation. With an ambitious slate of originals, new franchise extensions, and deeper audience engagement, Great American Media enters 2026 with momentum built on a distinct identity and growing industry influence.

Great American Media CEO Bill Abbott Reflects on the Honor of Broadcasting His Third National Christmas Tree Lighting

Abbott views the ceremony as a moment of unity for the entire country

WASHINGTON, DC – December 2, 2025 – Great American Media CEO Bill Abbott will once again bring the National Christmas Tree Lighting to viewers across the country, marking the third ceremony he has helped share on national television. For Abbott, the tradition has always represented a moment Americans can experience together, surrounded by the beauty of the tree in President’s Park and the 59 state and territory trees that symbolize the season’s spirit of peace, hope, love, and faith.

The 2025 National Christmas Tree Lighting will take place Thursday, Dec. 4 on the Ellipse at The White House and President’s Park. The broadcast premieres Friday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on Great American Family and will feature performances from national and local artists. The event will also stream on Great American Pure Flix through January 2026.

Abbott first worked with the National Park Foundation to bring the ceremony to television during his previous network leadership, airing President Obama’s final tree lighting and President Trump’s first. When he launched Great American Media, he hoped the company would one day help carry the tradition forward. When the opportunity became available, the network pursued it immediately.

“I’ve always felt the National Christmas Tree Lighting reflects the best of the season and brings people together,” Abbott said. “Earlier in my career, I was honored to help share President Obama’s last and President Trump’s first ceremonies with the country.”

“From the moment we founded Great American Media, I hoped we’d have the chance to bring this tradition to our viewers. Our mission has always been to celebrate faith, family, and country, and this event captures all three. When the opportunity came, we were thrilled to say yes.”

Great American Family continues to grow quickly, supported by Great American Pure Flix, a subscription video on demand service, and GFam+, a 24/7 commercial free streaming service.

Worship Song by Phil King Named Official Anthem ‘To Heal Divided America’

America Reads the Bible will feature “Heal Our Land” as a solemn prayer of intercession for America… ‘from sea to shining sea.’

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. (October 2, 2025) – America Reads the Bible, a weeklong cover-to-cover Bible reading event for our nation’s 250th birthday featuring celebrities, politicians, ministry leaders and various other Americans reading through the entire Bible, has named “Heal Our Land” by Phil King as its official worship anthem.

The announcement comes during Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement — a sacred time of fasting, prayer, and repentance. At a moment when many are grieving the recent assassination of Christian activist Charlie Kirk and witnessing rising violence in schools and churches across the nation, the song offers a timely call to seek God’s mercy and renewal.

“I believe God has placed a door before us that we can step through right now and see massive generational change take place in our nation,” said King, a modern-day psalmist, fervent about writing and singing soulful songs that point people to Jesus.

King wrote the song “Heal Our Land” as a solemn prayer of intercession for America and worked with director Josh Franer to produce the visually stunning music video.

“The people of God must take responsibility for “our sins are so many and so great,” says King whose song is based on 2 Chronicles 7:14 in the Bible.

“From sea to shining sea, pour out your mercy…heal our land, heal our cities, heal our people,” the lyrics repeat as a humble petition to God.

Christians Engaged Founder and President Bunni Pounds, whose ministry serves as the architect behind America Reads the Bible and producer of the “Heal our Land” music video, expressed heartfelt gratitude to King for lending his timely anthem to this watershed moment.

“As the Jewish people celebrate Yom Kippur, their holiest day of the year with fasting, prayer, and repentance, I know your touching lyrics will stir the hearts of all Americans to consider the times that we live in, turn back to the Word of God and cry out to God to heal our land,” said Pounds.

Designed as an invitation for people across the nation to reflect on the Bible’s historic role in American life and its ongoing relevance today, America Reads the Bible was inspired by the biblical prophet Ezra, who read Scriptures aloud to the Israelites.

In a similar spirit, more than 420 national leaders from diverse communities and spheres of influence – including actress Candace Cameron Bure who was recently named a national spokesperson – will narrate the Bible live at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC April 19-25, 2025, with an opening celebration on April 18. Simultaneously, Great American Pure Flix will produce, distribute and livestream the event from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. over seven days.

King is the former worship pastor at Christ for the Nations Institute and Gateway Church in Texas. He has sung and played on records and during live events with Michael W. Smith, Danny Gokey, Lauren Daigle, and Francesca Battistelli with whom he performed his pro-life anthem “Not Forgotten” at “Alive From New York,” an event produced in 2019 by Focus on the Family in Times Square. Recently, Phil became worship pastor at Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo, Texas, where he and his wife moved to raise their young twins.

Great American Media Reflects on September 11 with the Gary Sinise Foundation

“As we reflect on the 9/11 anniversary, I’m humbled by the selfless courage of first responders who ran toward danger to save others.”

NEW YORK, NY – September 8, 2025 — As the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaches, Great American Media pauses to honor and remember the 2,997 lives lost, the more than 6,000 injured, and the countless others forever impacted in the years that followed. Great American Media reflects with deep gratitude on the extraordinary bravery of the NYPD, FDNY, and everyday Americans who rose to the occasion, risking everything to serve, protect, and heal in the wake of unimaginable tragedy.

Bill Abbott, CEO of Great American Media, will be joined by Gary Sinise, Actor, Humanitarian, and Founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation, in a special featured interview, “Exclusive Conversations” on Great American Pure Flix, to discuss the impact of 9/11, the work Sinise is doing for the active-duty, first responder, and veteran communities. Their interview will be available on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, on Great American Pure Flix.

In the interview, you can hear Sinise recount how getting to know his brothers-in-law, who fought in Vietnam while Sinise was still in high school, impacted his heart for the military community; what inspired his support for veterans in the Chicago area in the 1980s; and what informed his legendary performance as wounded Vietnam War veteran Lt. Dan in the Academy Award-winning film Forrest Gump. He’ll also discuss a personal turning point following 9/11, when he toured hospitals for service members wounded in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan – and realized how “just showing up” can have a profound impact.

“Every year, as the anniversary of September 11th approaches, I am deeply moved by the selfless courage of the first responders who ran toward danger, many sacrificing their lives in a heroic effort to save others. Their bravery, along with the determination of thousands of men and women who stood up in the days, months, and years that followed, reminds us of the very best of America: a nation united in the face of tragedy, committed to defending our values, our freedoms, and one another,” said Bill Abbott, President and CEO, Great American Media.

“Even now, 24 years later, I continue to hear stories of quiet heroism that inspire and humble me. Stories like the Great Boat Lift, when nearly 500,000 people were evacuated from Manhattan in just nine hours by a spontaneous flotilla of ferries, tugboats, and private vessels. Or the remarkable tale of Roselle, the seeing eye dog who calmly led her blind owner, Michael Hingson, down 78 floors of Tower One and then through the chaos of the streets to safety. These are not just stories of survival; they are stories of American exceptionalism, compassion, and resolve in the face of darkness,” he continued.

“In the wake of 9/11, ‘Never Forget’ was a heartfelt vow, resonating deeply across the nation. Now, over two decades later, it risks fading into a hollow phrase. At Great American Media, we are devoted to preserving the stories of that day, ensuring future generations remember, unite, and are inspired to protect our cherished American freedoms. Through our content, we honor faith, family, and country – the enduring values that sustained us through 9/11 and continue to define our nation’s spirit,” Abbott concluded.

“This agreement ensures that Great American Family is available live to even more viewers across the country,” said Bill Abbott, CEO of Great American Media. “YouTube TV has become a vital platform for families who want the best of traditional cable channels in a modern streaming package, and we are excited to make our networks part of their lineup.”

The timing aligns with the upcoming 5th annual Great American Christmas, one of television’s most popular seasonal events, which will now be accessible live to YouTube TV subscribers for the first time.  Last season, Great American Christmas propelled Great American Family into a top 25 network and the fastest-growing entertainment network on cable television.

Paul Snow, Head of Media Partnerships at YouTube said “We are happy to welcome Great American Family to YouTube TV’s extensive library of news, sports, and entertainment. This partnership furthers our commitment to providing a broad spectrum of programming that resonates with all families.”

Abbott said the timing of the agreement was also ideal for viewers looking to watch Great American Family’s  new original series, Crossroad Springs,  which launched Saturday, Aug. 30.

Great American Media Creates Must-Read Book Lists to Ignite Passion for Reading and Authentic, Values-Based Storytelling

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2025 – In a world hooked on screens and struggling with reading, Great American Pure Flix and Great American Journal are dropping their must-read book lists just in time for National Read a Book Day on September 6 and International Literacy Day on September 8. These days inspire readers to dive into a gripping story, explore American history, or tackle literacy challenges in their local communities head-on. Shockingly, 54% of U.S. adults read at or below a 6th-grade level, and 64% of 4th graders aren’t proficient readers, according to the National Literacy Institute. That’s why Great American Media and Great American Journal curated a vibrant list of page-turners for readers of all ages, perfect for sparking joy, igniting curiosity, and cultivating a passion for storytelling.

The Great American Journal list includes: “Once Upon a Christmas Carol” by Melody Carlson; “Just Keep Going” by Lynn Smith; “The Peppered Sky” by Sarah Doran; “Two Seconds Too Late” by Dani Pettrey; “Anticipating Heaven” by Dr. Pamela Pyle and “Girl on the Bathroom Floor,” by Amber Emily Smith.

“Reading is more than a beloved American pastime – it’s a gateway that grants every individual boundless access to the rich threads of our history, shaping a brighter and more informed future,” said Bill Abbott, CEO of Great American Media. “In an era where the world has drifted from the art of authentic storytelling, we must rediscover its power to inspire, connect, and uplift. It’s time to bring families together through timeless, values-driven entertainment and literature that sparks imagination and fosters meaningful conversations across generations.”

“Just Keep Going” by Lynn Smith

Lynn Smith has coached hundreds of C-suite executives through their biggest communication challenges. After anchoring for NBC News, MSNBC, and CNN Headline News, she founded Lynn Smith Media & Communications, where she helps leaders transform fear into fuel for success. Through the popular parenting podcast StrollerCoaster by Munchkin (the most loved baby lifestyle brand in the world), Lynn bridges the worlds of executive leadership and skills that she wanted to be sure our children learned in the classroom and not the boardroom.

Her latest project is the children’s book “Just Keep Going.” Mouse’s day is full of big moments and bigger feelings. But with each step forward – jumping to shake off fear, accepting a friend’s comforting hug, or simply pausing to breathe – he builds his courage toolkit. Because taking a brave journey doesn’t mean you have to be fearless. It means you know how to just keep going.

“Two Seconds Too Late” by Dani Pettrey

With over a million copies sold worldwide, Dani Pettrey’s novels have captivated readers who crave adrenaline-laced suspense fused with faith, redemption, and heart. A three-time Christy Award finalist, Dani’s books have also earned Daphne du Maurier, National Readers’ Choice, and HOLT Medallion awards.

In her latest book, “Two Seconds Too Late,” a romantic getaway becomes a fight for survival in the newest installment in the MacLeod family saga. A woman vanishes without a trace just hours after a public fight with her boyfriend at a luxury spa in New Mexico. Worried something sinister has happened, her friends reach out to investigator Riley MacLeod, an expert skip tracer, for help. The assignment means going undercover at the retreat, which requires pairing up with private investigator Greyson Chadwick. As they delve deeper into the case and a ruthless hitman is unleashed upon them, Riley and Greyson find themselves fighting for justice and their very survival.

With signature pulse-pounding twists, Dani Pettrey demonstrates why she’s a top name in Christian romantic suspense, weaving a gripping tale of love and survival in the face of unimaginable danger.

In “Once Upon a Christmas Carol,” Carol Langstrom hates Christmas. Growing up in a dysfunctional home with a birthday on December 25 created too many dashed childhood expectations. And her work in the design industry, where she manages seasonal decor for wealthy, entitled clients, certainly hasn’t helped! She would rather avoid the holiday season altogether.

So, this year her goal is to flee to the Bahamas – by herself – bah humbug! But bad weather and God’s radically different plan redirect her flight to blustery Michigan, where she gets stuck on her aunt’s farm and discovers a different kind of Christmas. One wrapped in love, family, and holiday spirit.

Melody Carlson’s Christmas novella is rooted in Christian faith, woven with sweet romance, and features classic “A Christmas Carol” themes.

Gary Sinise, Gary Sinise Foundation

Gary Sinise’s stage, film, and television career has spanned more than four decades. In 1974, at 18 years old, he co-founded Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Twenty years later, for his performance as Lt. Dan Taylor in “Forrest Gump,” he received nominations for Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Academy Awards, and earned the Best Supporting Actor Award from the National Board of Review and the Commander’s Award from the Disabled American Veterans. Other film credits include “Apollo 13,” “Ransom,” “Snake Eyes,” “Impostor,” “The Green Mile,” “Mission to Mars,” and “The Human Stain.”

For over 40 years, Gary has stood as an advocate on behalf of America’s service members. It began in the early ‘80s, supporting local Vietnam veterans groups in the Chicago area, and into the ‘90s, when his portrayal of Lt. Dan formed an enduring connection with service members throughout the military community as he worked on behalf of the Disabled American Veterans organization, which he continues to actively support today.

In 2011, to expand upon his efforts, he established the Gary Sinise Foundation with a mission to serve and honor America’s defenders, veterans, first responders, Gold Star families, and those in need.
