Kathleen Charapata

General Counsel of Great American Media

Kathleen Charapata is General Counsel of Great American Media.  In this role, Charapata oversees all legal affairs and human resources for Great American Media, supporting the company’s brands and businesses.  Additionally, Charapata provides strategic legal guidance to the senior management team and oversees the legal function across all Great American Media divisions, including ad sales, distribution, production, talent relations and content acquisition, among others.  Based in Great American Media’s Denver office, Charapata reports to Bill Abbott, President and Chief Executive Officer of Great American Media.

Prior to joining Great American Media in June 2021, Charapata served as Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs for Crown Media Family Networks. In that role, she was the primary legal counsel for the distribution of Crown Media’s linear networks, subscription on-demand service and free ad-supported streaming channel. She was also counsel to Hallmark Publishing, the division which novelizes movies and acquires and publishes full-length novels in print and digital editions.

Previously, Charapata held positions as in-house counsel to the content acquisition teams at Charter Communications and DISH Network. In those roles, she negotiated, executed and advised on transactions with a broad array of content providers, including media conglomerates, regional sports networks, premium networks and movie studios, across all distribution platforms. 

Charapata holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Psychology from Saint Louis University and a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in California and Colorado.
